RAT is an acronym for stages of technology integration. It starts with R for Replacement indicating that tech has been used but is achieving the same teaching result as prior to the addition of tech.
Building a Lego car from instructions obtained on the Internet.
A stands for Amplification indicating that tech has provided better function, but again without changing the teaching result.
Building a Lego car with instructions and audio on a device.
Finally, T stands for Transformation where the technology opens up new avenues of learning that would be impossible without the technology involved.
Building a Lego car by collaborating with other classrooms on the Internet; including (but not limited to) design, stories, competitions.
