SAMR – is the acronym for Substitution – Augmentation – Modification – Redefinition as summarized in the graphic above provided by Schrock (n.d.).
Proposed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura, the model suggests ways to use technology in the classroom.

As we get more sophisticated with our technology, we want to ask ourselves, are we just substituting a tech answer for something we could do “old school”? Is there a way to incorporate technology into the classroom such that it augments, modifies, and eventually redefines the teaching.
Are we using tech in more engaging ways? Do we eventually create a lesson that accomplishes something for the learner that would be impossible without the technology used in the lesson? The SAMR model proposes that Modification and Redefinition reach the stage of “Transformation” — a step above merely “Enhancing” a lesson with technology.
